Question Sam : Can african cichlids, Discus, angelfish, and parrot fish all be in the same tank?
Hi, I am soon going buy a 55 to 75 gallon aquarium and can’t afford the costs of a saltwater tank so instead. I just wanted to know if these beautiful fish can all get along african cichlids, discus, parrot fish, angelfish, fire eel, and oscar. If not then what are some other fish that will get along with those fish. Please answer? THANK YOU ϋ

ok well first the tank size is too small for these fish.. wen they get bigger they are gonna need a bigger tank, i know if you want an oscar put it with a jack dempsey and convicts any of the other fish will mostly die from the oscar wen its bigger. these fish that you want are semi-agressive fish but i dont recommend puttin them together bc theyll most likely die of the oscar a nice set up is some oscars jack dempseys and some albino convicts like wat i have

Are green terror cichlids from the same lakes as African Cichlids? I have a 150 gallon?

Question Alex C : Are green terror cichlids from the same lakes as African Cichlids? I have a 150 gallon?
fish tank that I Plan on setting up with African cichlids? And I was wondering if the green cichlids and African Cichlids with do well together?

Answer by Robert
No, Green terrors are from Ecuador in South America and nearby areas. They will like ph are 6.5 to 7 but will survive at 7.5. Most African Cichlids (all from Lakes Tanganyika and Malawi need pH close to 8 or above. Green Terrors grow faster and get bigger than the African species normally kept as pets, and will attack and likely kill Africans, if you can adapt them to pH that high. Even if you do, they won’t be in tip-top health at pH 7.8 or higher.GT’s are very territorial and better at enforcing it than most Africans most of which are also territorial. It’s not a good mix any way you look at it. even in a 150 gallon tank, the green Terrors will bother the Africans a lot. a friend of mine tried to put a Green Terror in a 55 gallon with 3 Parrot cichlids. he ended up having to put in a tank divider. It’s not a good idea any way you look at it.

No, it is not a good idea to put Africans with angelfish. The angels are a slow moving, easy target for any kind of aggression from the Africans. Angels are South American and have different needs than the Africans. The Africans are a robust, busy fish that would not only stress the angels highly, they would pick at their long fins and feelers, eventually killing them.

Tiger barbs are fast moving fish that would not be in danger from the cichlids as long as they stayed in the upper levels of the tank where the cichlids do not typically spend much time. If you have a large tank with lots of room at the top, I see no problems with mixing the tigers with the Africans.

There are a few species of african catfish that can live with african cichlids with no problems, the feather fin catfish which basically is the family like the upside down catfish, they can live with no problems with african cichlids.

Other fish you have to be careful because it isnt aggression…. it is the fact that most catfish are 7.0-7.5 ph range fish, where african cichlids should be in 8.0-8.3

Can you mix Malawi Cichlids in the same tank?

November 14th, 2010 · No Comments

Frage von Levi H : Can you mix Malawi Cichlids in the same tank?
I have a 55 gallon tank and want to put in some Malawi cichlids. Can I combine the three different types of cichlids; mbuna, haps, and peacocks? thanks

Beste Antwort:

Answer by Cichlid
theortically you could if you keep a few. I would not recommend doing it in your tank. Haps and Peacocks need a lot of swimming space. Peacocks are a bit more sensitive to stress so I would recommend a large tank.

Instead go for some mbuna’s which stay small and are full of energy.
