Question Drew : How many gallon fish tank do u need for 20-25 african cichlids ?
the african cichlids would be from lake malawi

i would say a 75 gallon! at the biggest and at the smallest i would say a 30 gallon i would go with the 75 gallon

Question : what kind of eel can i keep with my small african cichlids?
i would really like to have an eel with my African cichlids in their 55 gallon tank…. i have seen peacock eels and they are definitely my favorite can i put one in there

That’s iffy, at best. Cichlids are very territorial, and eels can get big. They need room for themselves, and they aren’t as aggressive as cichlids. I wouldn’t waste my money.

Demasoni (very nice, extremely aggressive) get to about 3″

Saulosi (very nice, not as aggressive, not to be mixed with above Demasoni ever) get to about 4″

Shelldwellers species (great for smaller tanks, not to be mixed with lake Malawi Africans) get to about 1-2″

Most other types get larger then 4″.

My sister just gave me 3 cichlids. I don’t know what kind they are and I don’t know how to take care of them. Do they need a higher ph then most fish? what should the temperature be at? and what can they eat other then cichlid flakes? Any help would be greatful.

Do you know for a fact you have a females and males? If so, the conditions in your tank will have to be almost perfect condition. (Plenty of rocks, temperature, water ph , etc..) In other words, you may have a while..

Question Nicolette : African Cichlids?
I want to start a cichlid tank in my 75 gallon. never had em before. any advice? Like do they require more work than community fish, how many should i get, and do they all have to be african, and what do they need?
And why the weekly water changes or whatever? are they necessary? Are you supposed to do that with community cuz i dont?
Do they have to be from the same lake in Africa? Like they cant be from two different African Lakes?
